Pool Players of The Brooke vs Green Valley Recreation

8-Ball action at Green Valley Recreaction.
First we would like to thank Green Valley Recreation’s Billiard Club and Royce Fickling for their hospitality, friendly competition and a nice luncheon at the 19th Hole after the 8-Ball Challenge.  Another big THANK YOU goes out to Dominic Borland, Vice President of the Pool Players of the Brooke for organizing this event and making sure it was a success, and he did just that.  On Tuesday July 17, 2018 the Pool Players of the Brooke traveled down to Green Valley for an 8-Ball Challenge.

We were competing on four 9 foot Gandi pool tables for temporary ownership of a traveling plaque.  Gary Barlow our Travel Team Co-Captain matched up our players into 4 teams of 2 players each from SaddleBrooke and Green Valley also had 4, 2 man teams.   Our teams consisted of Jim “The Artist” Morris and Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Ron “Dblo7” Ridge and Gary “One Rail” Barlow, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Tom “Blind Squirrel” Barrett, and last but not least Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Dan “Oh No!” Stebbins.  Our opponent’s teams consisted of these 4 partner teams: Jim Irber and Doug Gale, Royce Fickling and Dave Kroth, Sam Yulish and Jack “Run Out-Jump Shot” Prescott, Jim Miller and Jerry Tiernan.

Our Tournament Director Lisa Wilding did a wonderful job explaining the rules and overseeing the 8-Ball action.  The format was simple and interesting.  Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team.  There were a total of 48 points in the match.  All our teams played well but not good enough to overcome the very mature game of 8-Ball being played in Green Valley.  We were steamrolled by the GVR Billiard team.  We came home empty handed as GVR bested our team and kept the traveling plaque in Green Valley.  The final results were the same as the last time we competed in Green Valley with Green Valley winning 32 games and Pool Players of the Brooke winning 16 games.  All 4 of our teams played well and fought hard down to the last game.  Congratulations to Green Valley Recreation on their dominating win over the Pool Players of the Brooke.  This event was a continuation of a friendly rivalry.  SaddleBrooke is proud of their teams and they thank GVR for hosting this event.  Enjoy your win and also enjoy viewing the traveling plaque on your wall.
