PPB Versus Quail Creek Billiards Club

   The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) would like to thank Quail Creek Billiards Club, Dennis Desmond, President of the Quail Creek’s Billiards Club and their members for the friendly competition and camaraderie.  Another big THANK YOU goes out to Dominic Borland and Gary Barlow, Captains of the Pool Players of the Brooke Travel Team for organizing this event and making sure it was a success, and they did a great job.  On Saturday March 30, 2019 at 9:00 AM the PPB hosted the Quail Creek Billiards Club at the beautiful Catalina Recreation Center’s (CRC) Billiard Room for an 8-Ball Team Challenge.  We were competing on three 8 foot Connelly pool tables for temporary ownership of a Bronze Traveling Plaque.  The 3 PPB teams consisted of Tom “Blind Squirrel” Barrett and Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Gary “One Rail” Barlow and Steve Searl, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jim “Shooter” Fabio.  Our opponents from Quail Creek were Dennis Desmond and Dave Goble, John Andersen and Peter Zeh, Frank Barson and Chuck Astleford.

  The format was simple and interesting.  Each of our teams would play each of their teams 4 games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team.  There were a total of 36 points in the match.  The first round score was 7 – 5 in favor of the PPB, during the second round Quail Creek was able to keep it close by splitting this round with 6 wins and 6 losses to keep the margin at 2 points with the score being 13 – 11 at the end of the second round with the PPB still ahead.  In the third and final round Quail Creek could not keep up with the PPB and the final score ended up being 20 – 16 in favor of the PPB.  Gary “One Rail” Barlow and Steve Searl were the top PPB Partner Team in the event with a winning record of 8 wins and 4 losses.  So we have another traveling plaque to add to our wall in the CRC.  Good job PPB!  Until next time, we enjoyed the competition and the luncheon at the RoadRunner Grill following the 8-Ball match with the Quail Creek.  Congratulations to all the participants!  RACK’EM UP!

Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR)

The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
