Jack “Crash” Hoverter Tops PPB 8-Ball Field

 The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club want to thank our sponsors Secure Senior Health Solutions - Leah Kari (520) 484-3807 and Stone Canyon Painting - Alex Stewart 520 780-4122.  On Saturday July 30, 2022 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room.  The format double elimination.  
   Tournament Directors were Randy Smith and Joe Giammarino with Ron Ridge manning the brackets.  Great job gentlemen!  The following field of 14 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-Ball.  Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Dick Dunbar, Terrence “The Cue” Sterling, Mike “Mayhem” Meredith, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Phelps “Frnchfry” L'Hommedieu. Dave Whitman, Jack Hepner, Ron “Dblo7” Ridge, Les Goins, and Fred “The Baker” Dianda.

Results:
1st – Jack “Crash” Hoverter – Back on Top! - 6 Wins 1 Loss
2nd –Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg– So Close! – 4 Wins 2 Losses
3rd – Ron “Dblo7” Ridge - Played Strong All Day. - 4 Wins 2 Losses 1 Bye

Recap:           
   Jack “Crash” Hoverter disposed of the field of 13 skilled 8-Ballers as follows:  Jack started the day by defeating in order:  Randy Smith, Ron Ridge, and Joe Giammarino.  Then Lowell Hegg sent Jack to the loser’s bracket.  In the loser’s bracket Jack started winning again and wouldn’t stop.  He started by beating Ron Ridge again which got Jack to the semi-finals against Lowell.  Jack would have to defeat Lowell twice to earn the championship.  Jack was up to the challenge and he won two games from Lowell to give him the title!  Congrats Jack!  Nice tourney!

Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR)

The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
