On Saturday April 27, 2023 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. The format was double elimination. Tournament Director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-Ball. Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Dick Dunbar, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, Les Goins, Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Dick “The Visor” Titus, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, Terry “The Cue” Sterling, Russ Doering, Mike “Mayhem” Meredith, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino Dick “The Stick” Schroeder, Jerry Cogswell, and Dominic “The Doctor” Borland. Results: 1st – Tony “The Snake” Cardillo – Best Player Today! 6 Wins 1 Loss 2nd – Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino – Nobody Remembers 2nd Place. 4 Wins 2 Losses 3rd – Mike “Mayhem” Meredith – That New Wheel Helps! 5 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Dick “The Visor” Titus – Beat some BIG Guys today. 4 Wins 2 Losses Recap: Tony Cardillo was at it again as he bested a field of 16 skilled 8-Ballers as follows: Tony’s path to the winner’s circle started by beating Joe Vidmar, Les Goins, and Fred Dianda in order. Next Tony ran into Joe Giammarino and Joe put Tony in the loser’s bracket and that placed Joe on the hill. In the loser’s bracket Tony defeated Mike Meredith to earn the right to face Joe again. Tony would have to beat Joe twice to win the tournament. Tony was up to the task and sent Joe packing. Congrats Tony “The Snake” Cardillo! The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
