PPB's Dave Parker Goes Undefeated

On Saturday August 26, 2023 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. The format was double elimination. Tournament Directors were Joe Giammarino, Dominic Borland, and Ron Ridge. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-Ball. Dick “The Visor” Titus, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, Terry “The Cue” Sterling, Mike “Mayhem” Meredith, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Jerry Cogswell, Dan Garand, Dave Whitman, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Tom “Blind Squirrel” Barrett, Ken Bishop, Rich “Hide the Salami” Adinolfi, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Ron “Dbl07” Ridge, and Dominic “The Doctor” Borland. Results: 1st – Dave Parker – Perfect Today! 5 Wins 0 Loses 2nd – Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar – Joe’s Best Finish, Congrats! 4 Wins 2 Losses 3rd – Randy “Thin Man” Smith – Strategically On Point. 4 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Ron “Dbl07” Ridge – Beat some of the best today. 4 Wins 2 Losses Recap: Dave Parker was the best cueist on Saturday as he went undefeated in putting down a field of 16 skilled 8-Ballers: Dave’s path to the winner’s circle started by beating Lowell Hegg, Tom Barrett, and Dominic Borland in order. Joe Vidmar was Dave’s next opponent and Joe got the same treatment as everybody else and was sent to the loser’s bracket by Dave. Joe fought his way through the loser’s bracket to get another shot at Dave in the finals. Joe would have to beat Dave twice as Dave did not have a loss at this point. In the first game Dave and Joe went back and forth and then Dave got into stroke as he ran down to the 8-Ball but hid himself from the 8-Ball. The 8-Ball was sitting around the spot. The cue ball was sitting close to the near side pocket. Dave called the 8-Ball in the far side pocket and proceeded to kick the cue off the bottom rail contacting the 8-Ball perfectly and sending it directly into the side pocket for a fantastic shot and the win! Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.    The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) would like to thank Quail Creek (QC) Billiards Club, Travel Team Director Dennis Desmond, President of the Quail Creek’s Billiards Club’s Chuck Asteleford and their members for the friendly competition and camaraderie.   Another big THANK YOU goes out to Dominic Borland and Gary Barlow, Captains of the Pool Players of the Brooke Travel Team for organizing this event and making sure it was a success, and they did a great job.   On Saturday January 11, 2020 at 9:00 AM the PPB hosted the Quail Creek Billiards Club at the beautiful Catalina Recreation Center’s (CRC) Billiard Room for an 8-Ball Team Challenge.  We were competing on four 8 foot Connelly pool tables for temporary ownership of a Bronze Traveling Plaque.  The 4 PPB teams consisted of Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow, Steve Searl, and Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Phelps “Frenchfye” L’Hommediue and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, and Ron “Dblo7” Ridge and Randy “Thin Man
