The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted its 50th pool tournament on Saturday January 27, 2024 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. Thank you Rancheros Market for sponsoring this tournament to the tune of 6 Gift Cards! The format was double elimination 8-Ball Singles Tournament. Tournament Director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 8-Ball. Dick “The Visor” Titus, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Tom “Blind Squirrel” Barrett, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Dick “Highlander” Dunbar, Gary “One Rail” Barlow, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, Ron “Dblo7” Ridge, Bill Webster, Bob “O” Ogle, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, and Les Goins.
Results: 1st – Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu – Outlasted Everyone! 6 Wins 1 Loss 2nd – Dave Parker – So Close! 4 Wins 2 Losses 3rd – Tony “The Snake” Cardillo – He’s Still Hanging Around! 5 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Ron “Dblo7” Ridge – Good Showing in Tough Field. 3 Wins 2 Losses
Recap: Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu has been on a roll this week. First by winning his age brackets’ Gold Medal at the 39th Southern Arizona’s Senior Olympics on Tuesday January 23, 2024 at Pockets Billiards in Tucson. Then on Saturday January 27, 2024 he bested a field of 16 PPB 8-Baller’s at the CRC’s pool room in HOA1. His road to triumph started by defeating in order Gary Barlow, Dick Dunbar, Lowell Hegg, Dave Parker was Phelps next opponent and Dave got the best of Phelps and sent him to the loser’s bracket. While in the losers bracket Phelps went on to beat Tony Cardillo to get another chance at Dave Parker. Phelps would have to defeat Dave twice to take the top prize since Dave was undefeated on the hill. Phelps won the first match to set up the finals against Dave. The PPB wants to thank all our participants. The 8-Ball Singles tournament started at 1:00 PM and lasted 4 ½ hours with 40+ games of 8-Ball being played. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.      The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) want to thank our generous sponsors Beth Fedor - Realty Executives Beth@makeyourmovematter.com Office: 257-1167   Cell: 271-3642 and Jim Fabio – Medicare Insurance Professional 520 818-6375    On Saturday April 24, 2021 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room.   The format was single game, double elimination.   Due to COVID-19, all participants were required to wear face masks, sanitize their hands before every game, only 8 players at a time were allowed in the billiard room with the other participants waiting in the card room or outside to keep Social Distancing.   Participants endured the face masks even though some had difficulty breathing easily and some having their eyeglasses fog up while playing.    Tournament Directors were Dominic Boland and Joe Giammarino.  The following field of 15 players gathered to play competitive 8-Ball.   Jerry Co
