Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs Green Valley Recreation (GVR)

The PPB would like to thank Green Valley Recreation’s Billiard Club, and Tom Keller Travel Team Coordinator for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition and a nice luncheon after the match at HOA1’s newly renovated RoadRunner Grill. Another thank you goes out to Tony Cardillo PPB Travel Team Director for organizing this event. On Saturday February 10, 2024 the GVR’s Travel Team ventured up to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge against the PPB. We were competing for temporary ownership of a traveling bronze plaque that has been in PPB’s possession since Saturday December 11, 2022. Our team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and Green Valley also had 4, 2 player teams. Our teams consisted of Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Gary “One Rail” Barlow and Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg and Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu. The format was simple and interesting. Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. The first round was a 6 to 6 tie. The second round was also an even split at 6 to 6. After the second round the match was tied at 12 to 12. In the third round we finally saw the PPB pull ahead with an 8 to 4 round in favor of the PPB. After the third round the PPB was ahead by a 20 to 16 score. The PPB would need to win at least 4 games in the final round to mount the Traveling Bronze Plaque back up on the wall in the CRC Billiard Room. The PPB did better than that by winning the final round by a 9 to 3 score. So, with the final score being the PPB 29 and GVR 19 The PPB takes the Traveling Bronze Plaque and puts it back on the wall in the CRC. Congrats to the Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiards Club! Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.      The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) want to thank our generous sponsors Beth Fedor - Realty Executives Beth@makeyourmovematter.com Office: 257-1167   Cell: 271-3642 and Jim Fabio – Medicare Insurance Professional 520 818-6375    On Saturday April 24, 2021 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room.   The format was single game, double elimination.   Due to COVID-19, all participants were required to wear face masks, sanitize their hands before every game, only 8 players at a time were allowed in the billiard room with the other participants waiting in the card room or outside to keep Social Distancing.   Participants endured the face masks even though some had difficulty breathing easily and some having their eyeglasses fog up while playing.    Tournament Directors were Dominic Boland and Joe Giammarino.  The following field of 15 players gathered to play competitive 8-Ball.   Jerry Co
