The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles tournament on Saturday November 16, 2024 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. Thank you PPB for sponsoring this tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament was double elimination. This is the second in a series of five PPB 8-Ball tournaments used for qualifying into the PPB’s first 8-Ball Club Championship. Tournament Director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of fifteen players showed up to compete in the game of 8-Ball singles. Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Randy “Nice Try” Smith, Dick “You’re Not Going To Like This” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Bill Webster, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dan “Rambo” Sollin, Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Rodger “Pocket Dodger” Beard, Russ “Long Shot” Doering, Steve Wiley, Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Dave Parker, and Ted Duma. Results: 1st – Randy “Nice Try” Smith – Never Lost! 5 Wins 0 Losses 2nd – Dave Parker – Nice 2 Ball Kick Shot! 6 Wins 2 Losses 3rd – Tony “The Snake” Cardillo – In the Chase. 3 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar – Still in the Picture! 3 Wins 2 Losses Recap: Randy “Nice Try” Smith bulldozed through a field of fifteen on his way to victory by defeating these five PPB members in this order Steve Wiley, Fred Dianda, Dick Dunbar, Tony Cardillo, and finally Dave Parker. In the finals against Dave Parker, Randy watched as Dave ran down to the eight-ball only to end up with difficult shot on the eight ball and barely missed. This left Randy with four of his object balls and the eight left on the table. Randy flawlessly ran out for the win. Congrats Randy “Nice Try” Smith! The 8-Ball Singles tournament started at noon and lasted three hours and twenty minutes with forty plus games of 8-Ball being played. We competed with friends that have a shared passion. The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
