Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs Green Valley Recreation (GVR)
The PPB would like to thank Green Valley Recreation’s Billiard Club and Tom Keller, GVR’s Travel Team Coordinator for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition and a nice luncheon after the match at the Coyote Grill. Another thank you goes out to Tony Cardillo PPB Travel Team Director for organizing this event. On Saturday February 8, 2025 the PPB’s Travel Team ventured down to GVR for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. The competition was being held in the GVR’s old golf cart garage converted into GVR’s new pool room which has 10 9 foot Diamond ProAm pool tables. The PPB and GVR have a long history going back to our first match on October 13, 2016 when the GVR taught us a big lesson! In fact the first 4 times we met GVR in competition they kept teaching us. The PPB did eventually learn their lesson as they have defeated GVR the last 4 times they’ve competed. We were competing for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in PPB’s possession since December 11, 2022. Our team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and GVR also had 4, 2 player teams. Our teams consisted of Jack “Crash” Hoverter and Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Fred “The Baker” Dianda and Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, and Dave Parker and Bob “O” Ogle.
The format was simple. Our 4 teams would play each of their 4 teams 3 games of 8-Ball with each game worth 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. GVR and PPB tied in the first round at 6 games each. The second round went in favor of the PPB 7 to 5. Going into the third round the PPB was ahead 13 to 11. The third round was identical to the second round with the PPB on top by a 7 to 5 score. Going into the fourth and final round the PPB was up 20 to 16. The PPB would need to win at least 4 games in the final round to get to 24 points and a tie to retain the Traveling Bronze Plaque. The PPB did just that by losing the final round by an 8 to 4 score. So, with the final score being the PPB 24 and GVR 24 the PPB takes the Traveling Bronze Plaque back home to mount on the wall in the CRC’s pool room and join the other 7 plaques. Congrats to the Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiards Club!
This event was a continuation of a friendly but fierce rivalry. SaddleBrooke is proud of their team and they thank GVR for hosting the PPB.
