Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs Sun City Oro Valley (SCOV)

The PPB would like to thank Sun City Oro Valley’s Billiard Club, Robert Dufur and SCOV’s billiard team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, and friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony Cardillo PPB’s Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday November 08, 2025 the PPB’s Travel Team ventured down to SCOV’s Billiard Room for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. Tony “The Snake” Cardillo was the tournament director. We were competing on two 9 foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables and two 9-foot Brunswick pool tables for temporary ownership of a traveling bronze plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since November 2021. Our team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SCOV also had 4, 2 player teams. Our 2 player teams were drawn from the following list of PPB cueists: Fred “The Baker” Dianda and Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Mike Collins, Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg and Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Randy “Nice Try” Smith and Jack “Crash” Hoverter. A big welcome to Mike Collins as he made his initial appearance on the PPB’s Travel Team, welcome Mike! The format was simple. Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game worth 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. PPB won the first round 7 to 5. The second round was won by SCOV also by a score of 7 to 5 to tie the match at 12 to 12. In the third round the PPB turned the heat up and beat SCOV 9 to 3. The PPB went into the fourth and final round up by a score of 21 to 15. This meant that the PPB only needed to win 3 games in the fourth round to secure the right to keep the traveling bronze plaque in SaddleBrooke for another year. SaddleBrooke’s PPB fourth round score duplicated the third round score of 9 to 3. The final score was 30 to 18 and the PPB mounted the traveling bronze plaque back up on our wall! This event was a continuation of a friendly but fierce rivalry with SCOV. SaddleBrooke is proud of their team and they thank SCOV for competing in this Travel Team Match. After the match the billiard clubs met at the Views Restaurant for lunch and some friendly banter. Joe Giammarino jgpool@outlook.com

Pool Players of The Brooke’s 2025 8-Ball Club Champion! Tony “The Snake” Cardillo

The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) has been in existence as an HOA1 sanctioned club since January 2016 and it has not had an 8-Ball Club Champion until now. In early 2024 the PPB’s Vice President Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu headed up a small committee to develop the process for accomplishing this objective. The PPB would hold five 8-Ball qualifying tournaments on the following Saturdays: Oct 25, 2024, Nov 16, 2024, Jan 25, 2025, Feb 28, 2025, and Mar 29, 2025. The PPB would apply a point system during these tournaments where the PPB members earned points for participation, wins, and position achieved. Once all the five qualifying tournaments were completed, the eight participants with the highest point totals competed in a two day tournament to decide the first PPB 8-Ball Club Champion. The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles tournament on Friday June 20, 2025 and Saturday June 21, 2025 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room sponsored by Debra Miller and State Farm. Debra Miller is the PPB’s latest Tournament sponsor and we gratefully thank Debra for her support and confidence in the PPB! Thank you for sponsoring this PPB 8-Ball tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament on Friday June 20th was race to two, double elimination, down to the final four participants. On Saturday June 21st the final four competed in the semifinals which were a race to four; and the finals which were a race to five. Third and fourth place was determined by a race to two.
