The Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiards Club (PPB) would like to thank MOD Pizza 4386 N Oracle Rd, 520 448-5838 for sponsoring our Travel Team. The PPB also thanks Voyager’s Billiard Club (VBC) and Ted Beery for the friendly competition and cordial luncheon at HOA1’s RoadRunner Grill after the 8-Ball team challenge. Another big THANK YOU goes to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, PPB’s Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday January 17, 2026 the VBC’s Travel Team ventured up to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four nine foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque. The PPB has had possession of this plaque since January 13, 2023 when the PPB defeated the VBC 27 to 21 at Voyager. Our team is made up of four, two player teams and Voyager also had four, two player teams. Our teams consisted of Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, Mike Collins and Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, Jack “Crash” Hoverter and Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Kirk Meckem and Jay “Destroyer” Johnson. The format was simple. Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game won being worth 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. PPB won the first round 9 to 3. The second round went in favor of the PPB again with an 8 to 4 score. After the second round the score was 17 for the PPB and 7 for the VBC. The third round saw the PPB and VBC split the points at 6 to 6. Going into the fourth and final round the score was 23 to 13 in favor of the PPB. The final round found the PPB needing to win only 1 game to tie at 24 all and the right to keep the Traveling Bronze Plaque on their wall in SaddleBrooke. The PPB did better than that! The fourth round score was the PPB 5 and Voyager 7. The final score was 28 to 20 in favor of the PPB. The PPB will mount the Traveling Bronze Plaque back up on our wall in the CRC! This event was the continuation of a friendly rivalry with the Voyager’s Billiard Club. SaddleBrooke is proud of their team and they thank Voyager for visiting us and competing in this Travel Team Match. MOD Pizza Sponsor gift went to best record of 9 wins and 3 losses to Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg. The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) has been in existence as an HOA1 sanctioned club since January 2016 and it has not had an 8-Ball Club Champion until now. In early 2024 the PPB’s Vice President Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu headed up a small committee to develop the process for accomplishing this objective. The PPB would hold five 8-Ball qualifying tournaments on the following Saturdays: Oct 25, 2024, Nov 16, 2024, Jan 25, 2025, Feb 28, 2025, and Mar 29, 2025. The PPB would apply a point system during these tournaments where the PPB members earned points for participation, wins, and position achieved. Once all the five qualifying tournaments were completed, the eight participants with the highest point totals competed in a two day tournament to decide the first PPB 8-Ball Club Champion. The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles tournament on Friday June 20, 2025 and Saturday June 21, 2025 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room sponsored by Debra Miller and State Farm. Debra Miller is the PPB’s latest Tournament sponsor and we gratefully thank Debra for her support and confidence in the PPB! Thank you for sponsoring this PPB 8-Ball tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament on Friday June 20th was race to two, double elimination, down to the final four participants. On Saturday June 21st the final four competed in the semifinals which were a race to four; and the finals which were a race to five. Third and fourth place was determined by a race to two. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Second Ladder Competition

The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) held their second Ladder Competition with 20 PPB Members participating. Tony “The Snake” Cardillo implemented and administered the PPB Ladder competition. The main reason for this competition was to increase head to head competition within the PPB Billiard Club. Each challenge on the Ladder was a race to four 8-ball match. There were two divisions within the Ladder competition, Minnesota Fats division and the Willie Mosconi division. The Ladder started on 09/18/2024 and ran until 04/18/2025 with the divisional playoffs on Tuesday 04/22/2025.
