Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs Mission Royale (MRBC)

The Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiard Club (PPB) would like to thank Mission Royale’s Billiard Club (MRBC) and their President Brian Kjensmo for their pool table prowess, camaraderie and friendly competition. Another thank you goes out to Tony Cardillo PPB Travel Team Director for organizing this event. On Saturday March 14, 2026 the PPB Travel Team ventured up to the MRBC in Casa Grande for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing for temporary ownership of a traveling bronze plaque that has been in MRBC’s possession since March 09, 2024. Our team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and MRBC also had 4, 2 player teams. Our teams consisted of Jack “Crash” Hoverter and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Jay “Destroyer” Johnson, Mike “The Lip” Collins and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg, and Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar and Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu. The format was simple and interesting. Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team. There were a total of 48 points in the match. The first round was a tie at 6 to 6. The PPB won the second round with an 8 to 4 score to put the PPB ahead at 14 to 10. The third round MRBC won 7 matches to the PPB’s 5 matches. Going into the final round the PPB was leading with the score being 19 to 17. The fourth round found the PPB needing to split the round at 6 and 6 to win the Traveling Bronze Plaque back. The PPB fell short and lost the final round 8 to 4. The final score was 25 to 23 in favor of MRBC. This event was a continuation of a friendly but competitive rivalry. SaddleBrooke is proud of their team and they thank MRBC for hosting the PPB in Casa Grande for this 8-Ball Team Match. We again had a chance to play for the Traveling Bronze Plaque that will stay in Casa Grande at Mission Royale. Our PPB’s Travel Team joined the MRBC Team at Buffalo Wild Wings after the 8-Ball Challenge for some lunch and fun banter. Joe Giammarino jgpool@outlook.com

The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) has been in existence as an HOA1 sanctioned club since January 2016 and it has not had an 8-Ball Club Champion until now. In early 2024 the PPB’s Vice President Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu headed up a small committee to develop the process for accomplishing this objective. The PPB would hold five 8-Ball qualifying tournaments on the following Saturdays: Oct 25, 2024, Nov 16, 2024, Jan 25, 2025, Feb 28, 2025, and Mar 29, 2025. The PPB would apply a point system during these tournaments where the PPB members earned points for participation, wins, and position achieved. Once all the five qualifying tournaments were completed, the eight participants with the highest point totals competed in a two day tournament to decide the first PPB 8-Ball Club Champion. The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Singles tournament on Friday June 20, 2025 and Saturday June 21, 2025 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room sponsored by Debra Miller and State Farm. Debra Miller is the PPB’s latest Tournament sponsor and we gratefully thank Debra for her support and confidence in the PPB! Thank you for sponsoring this PPB 8-Ball tournament. The format of this 8-Ball Singles Tournament on Friday June 20th was race to two, double elimination, down to the final four participants. On Saturday June 21st the final four competed in the semifinals which were a race to four; and the finals which were a race to five. Third and fourth place was determined by a race to two. Pool Players of The Brooke’s 2025 Membership Appreciation Happy Hour

The Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiard Club (PPB) held their annual Membership Appreciation Happy Hour event on April 1, 2025 in the Mountain View ballroom from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. PPB Founder Dominic “The Doctor” Borland was the Membership Appreciation Event Committee Chairman and also Master of Ceremonies. As the PPB Members entered they were presented with a PPB engraved commemorative ball point pen. Over one hundred members and spouses attended. Dominic “The Doctor” Borland started the event by issuing a heartfelt welcome to our members and their spouses. He also introduced attending sponsors Leah Kari of Leah Kari Solutions and Dorothy Moore, Lauren Moore, and Jim Bilwacks of The Moore Advantage Group. Shannon Morgenstern representing the Arizona Pain Care Center appeared later in the event.
