Dick Dunbar and the Pool Players of The Brooke’s Billiard Club (PPB) have been a busy HOA1 Club in the month of August! On Thursday August 13, 2026, thirty PPB Members and guests gathered at Mi Tierra Mexican Restaurant for a sponsor appreciation luncheon. Our host Carolina Solorzano welcomed us with open arms and a shot of Tequila! Then on Monday August 24th and Tuesday August 25th Justin Turner from SouthWest Billiards in Phoenix brought our four beautiful 9-Foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables back to factory zero then leveled and recovered them in Simonis Tournament Blue 860 HR cloth, compliments of our own HOA1! A big thank you goes out to HOA1 Board of Directors and our General Manager Vivian Timien for their continued support of the billiard community in SaddleBrooke and providing us with the best equipment in the Southern Arizona! Finally the Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club hosted a 9-Ball singles pool tournament on Saturday August 29, 2026 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. This tournament was sponsored by our newest pool room sponsor, Stretch Zone 7352 N, Oracle Road 520 395-0753 Damien Cole. Thank you for your sponsorship. The format of this tournament was 9-Ball singles, race to 2, double elimination. Tournament Director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of 16 players showed up to compete in the game of 9-Ball. Dick “The Visor” Titus, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dick “Highlander” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Frank Powell, Billy “Las Vegas” Moran, Mike Heiberger, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Al Weigel, Al Geelhaar, Gene Owen, Mark Erwin, and Lowell “8-Ball” Hegg. Results: 1st – Tony “The Snake” Cardillo – Undefeated! 5 Wins 0 Losses 2nd – Billy “Las Vegas” Moran – So Close and a Little Lucky! 6 Wins 2 Losses 3rd – Phelps “Montana” L’Hommedieu – In the Chase! 3 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Jack “Crash” Hoverter – Got His Entry Back. 4 Wins 2 Losses Recap: Tony Cardillo’s road to an undefeated record was as follows: Tony defeated in order: Joe Vidmar, Frank Powell, Lowell Hegg, Phelps L’Hommedieu and finally Billy Moran. HOA1 Gift Card Winners: Joe Vidmar and Mike Heiberger. The PPB wants to thank all our participants. The 9-Ball Singles tournament started at 10:30 AM and lasted 3 hours 45 minutes with between 62 and 93 games of 9-Ball being played. We competed with friends that have a shared passion. The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted an 8-Ball Scotch Doubles tournament on Saturday June 20, 2026 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room sponsored by Debra Miller and State Farm. Debra Miller is one of the PPB’s latest tournament sponsors and we gratefully thank Debra for her generosity, support and confidence in the PPB. The format of this 8-Ball Scotch Doubles Tournament was single game, double elimination. The Scotch Doubles format is where you and your partner take alternate shots until one of you misses then your opponents take alternate shots. Tournament Directors were Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Phelps “Montana” L’Hommediue. The field of thirty-two players was split into “A” and “B” groups. The method for creating the two groups was partially based on the PPB’s Skill Rating and partially based on the players’ past performance. Kevin, one of the owners of Prestige Billiards set up our 3 tables on Monday November 5th.  Last year Kevin had the honor to be the man that set up all the tables for the Mosconi Cup in Las Vegas.  The Mosconi Cup is a billiard competition between the U.S.A and Europe.  This year is the 25th Mosconi Cup to be held in England and Kevin is patiently waiting for a call to let him know he is going to be flown over to England to set up the tables again this year.     Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) want to thank our generous sponsor SmashBurger.  On June 15, 2019 the PPB hosted an Under 25 Partners 8-Ball Tournament. The PPB decided to eliminate their highly skilled players from this tournament and let other club members compete for the Under 25 Championship. Eligible participants must have a Skill Rating of 25 or less (40 is a perfect Skill Rating).  We also decided to have a referee on each of the 3 tables to help some of our club’s newer members get more familiar with the Billiard Congress of America’s 8-Ball Rules.  Tournament Directors were Dominic Borland and Ron Ridge. Tournament Referees were Dominic “The Doctor” Borland on Table #1, Phelps “Frenchfry” L’Hommediue on Table #2 and Gary “One Rail” Barlow on Table #3.  The top 9 Skill Rated players from the eligible Under 25 players drew a partner from the balance of the field.  After the draw the 9 Partners were Jay “The Shamrock Shooter” Clary and ...
