The 34th Southern Arizona Senior Games

Jan “Banker” Stebbins and Dan “Oh No!” Stebbins


5 Members of the Pool Players of The Brooke traveled down to Green Valley, Arizona to compete in the 34th Southern Arizona Senior Games hosted by Green Valley Recreation in March 2018.  These Senior Games consist of numerous sporting competitions including billiards.  Our PPB Club was represented quite well by these 5 members. 

Silver Medalists
   Dan “Oh No!” Stebbins and Jan “Banker” Stebbins each won a Silver medal competing in the
Mixed Scotch Doubles 8-Ball event.  Congrats Dan and Jan!

Bronze Medalists
   Dan “Oh No!” Stebbins and Jim “The Artist” Morris each took home a Bronze medal for
their performance in the Men’s Scotch Doubles 8-Ball event.  Dan Stebbins was our only member to win multiple medals.  Congrats Dan and Jim!

Gold Medalists
   Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino also competed in the Men’s
8-Ball Scotch Doubles and defeated all opponents except one in taking the Gold medal in the
men’s Scotch Doubles 8-Ball.  Dan Stebbins and Jim Morris were the only partner team to
defeat Dominic and Joe and sending them to the loser’s bracket in the second round. 
Dominic and Joe fought back after this defeat to go on and dispose of the rest of the field
including a revenge match with Dan and Jim.  Dominic and Joe ended their run with 7
consecutive wins in this tournament for the Gold!  Congrats Dominic “The Doctor” Borland
and Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino!

 Congratulations to all who competed in the 34th Southern Arizona Senior Games, the Pool Players of The Brooke and SaddleBrooke are proud of your accomplishments.

Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR)

The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
