Pool Players of The Brooke vs Sun City Oro Valley Billiards Club 2/10/2020

   First we would like to thank Sun City Oro Valley Billiards Club (SCOV), Jim Lilja Activity Director, and Tom Caswell President of SCOV Billiards Club for the friendly competition and camaraderie.  Another big THANK YOU goes out to Dominic Borland and Gary Barlow, Captains of the Pool Players of the Brooke (PPB) Travel Team for organizing this event and making sure it was a success, and they did just that.  On Monday February 10, 2020 at 10 AM the PPB traveled down Oracle Road to the house of the SCOV Billiards Club at the beautiful Catalina Recreation Center’s Billiard Room in Vistoso for an 8-Ball Team Challenge.  We were competing on 4 9 foot pool tables for temporary ownership of the Bronze Traveling Plaque.  Our 4 teams consisted of Ron “Dblo7” Ridge and Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Chris Madsen, Gary “One Rail” Barlow and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, and Jim “Shooter” Fabio and Steve Searl.  Our opponents were Sean Park and Jim Baker, Robert Dufur and Tom Caswell, Jim Lilja and  Keith Moe, Mike Connoy and Michael Rittmann.

  The format was simple and interesting.  Each of our teams would play each of their teams 3 games of 8-ball with each game won being 1 point for the winning team.  There were a total of 48 points in the match.  The match started at 10:00 AM with the score going back and forth throughout the match.  SCOV ended up on top by a score of 25 to 23 around 1:00 PM.    Good job SCOV!  Our team played their hearts out but it was not to be.  Until next time, we enjoyed the competition and the luncheon at the La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant following the 8-Ball match with the SCOV.

Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) vs SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR)

The PPB would like to thank SaddleBrooke Ranch Billiards Club (SBR), Jim Kauffman, and SBR’s billiards team for their pool table prowess, camaraderie, friendly competition. Another big THANK YOU goes out to Tony “The Snake” Cardillo PPB Travel Team Captain for organizing this event. On Saturday April 27, 2024 the SBR’s Travel Team ventured down to SaddleBrooke for an 8-Ball Team Challenge. We were competing on four 9-foot Diamond Pro-Am pool tables for temporary ownership of a Traveling Bronze Plaque that has been in the PPB’s possession since April 22, 2023. The PPB team was made up of 4, 2 player teams and SBR also had 4, 2 player teams. The PPB teams consisted of Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino and Jack “Crash” Hoverter, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu and Fred “The Baker” Dianda, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo and Dave Parker, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland and Gary “One Rail” Barlow. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.
