Jack “Crash” Hoverter PPB’s 9-Ball King

The Pool Players of The Brookes’ Billiard Club (PPB) hosted a 9-Ball singles pool tournament on Saturday March 30, 2024 in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room. The format was double elimination 9-Ball Singles Tournament. Thank you Rancheros Market for sponsoring this tournament to the tune of a special Gift Certificate for the first four finishers. 1st Place: 1 Cowboy Steak, 1 pack of tortillas, and 2 breakfast meals of your choice. 2nd Place: 2 breakfast meals of your choice. 3rd Place: 1 LB of Shrimp Ceviche and 1 pack of chips. 4th Place: 1 pack of chips and a salsa of your choice. Tournament Director was Joe Giammarino. The following field of 14 players showed up to compete in the game of 9-Ball. Dick “The Visor” Titus, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Dick “Highlander” Dunbar, Tony “The Snake” Cardillo, Phelps “Montana” L'Hommedieu, Bill Webster, Bob “O” Ogle, Joe “Ball Breaker” Vidmar, Dave Parker, Dan Sollin, Russ Doering, Jack “Crash” Hoverter, and Dave Whitman. Results: 1st – Jack “Crash” Hoverter – Undefeated! 5 Wins 0 Losses 2nd – Randy “Thin Man” Smith – So Close! 5 Wins 2 Losses 1 Bye 3rd – Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino – Left 3 Hanging 9-Balls! 3 Wins 2 Losses 4th – Russ Doering – Good Showing in Tough Field. 4 Wins 2 Losses Recap: Jack “Crash” Hoverter’s road to victory was as follows. Jack started by defeating in order Dave Whitman, Dick Dunbar, Tony Cardillo, and Joe Giammarino. Meanwhile Randy Smith was working his way through the loser’s bracket to have a chance to overcome Jack’s undefeated play. Randy would have to beat Jack twice to take the title away from him. Jack was up to the challenge as he bested Randy in the first match 2 to 0 to take the 9-Ball title. Congrats Jack “Crash” Hoverter! Enjoy your Cowboy Steak! PPB’s Gift Winner: Dick Dunbar The PPB wants to thank all our participants. The 9-Ball Singles tournament started at 1:00 PM and lasted 2 ½ hours with 40+ games of 9-Ball being played. Pool Players of The Brooke’s Travel Team – Perfection!

     The Pool Players of The Brooke (PPB) Travel Team started by Dominic “The Doctor” Borland one of the PPB’s Founders, previous Vice President (twice), and the only Travel Team Director the PPB has had.   The PPB Travel Team began competitions on October 29, 2016 at Mission Royale in Casa Grande Arizona where the PPB defeated Mission Royale 30 to 18.   This was the start to a 6 year long run of competitions headed up by Dominic Borland.   In the past 6 years the PPB Travel Team competed 20 times against the following communities:   Green Valley Recreation, Sun City Vistoso, Quail Creek, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Sun Lakes in Maricopa County, Mission Royale, and Sunflower in Marana.      Our Travel Team is made up of any PPB member who wants to compete against other communities.      The Pool Players of The Brooke Billiards Club (PPB) want to thank our generous sponsors Beth Fedor - Realty Executives Beth@makeyourmovematter.com Office: 257-1167   Cell: 271-3642 and Jim Fabio – Medicare Insurance Professional 520 818-6375    On Saturday April 24, 2021 the PPB Billiards Club hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament in HOA1’s Catalina Recreation Center (CRC) Billiards Room.   The format was single game, double elimination.   Due to COVID-19, all participants were required to wear face masks, sanitize their hands before every game, only 8 players at a time were allowed in the billiard room with the other participants waiting in the card room or outside to keep Social Distancing.   Participants endured the face masks even though some had difficulty breathing easily and some having their eyeglasses fog up while playing.    Tournament Directors were Dominic Boland and Joe Giammarino.  The following field of 15 players gathered to play competitive 8-Ball.   Jerry Co
